Born on March 1st, 1979, in Cameroon, West Africa, Bernice Angoh is the first of five children. She moved to the U.S. in 1999 when she was twenty-years old. Her less than idyllic childhood and eventful adult life sets the stage for her writing which has been hailed as Enthralling, Profoundly absorbing, Heartbreaking, Self-healing, Passionate and Powerful.
At age ten, Bernice wrote her very first song 'Live for Today', a piece whose lyrics give away the state of mind of a young, fragile and wounded soul. She later went on to write her first series of eight short stories and penned over 300 poems and songs by the time she was 16 years old. How did she know my story? is what one often finds themselves asking as they behold her wisdom.
She finished high school with excellent grades and recommendations from every one of her teachers. As a senior, she was responsible for all her schools social activities, a position she gained by a landslide of votes from her peers and school mates. Throughout college she was a straight-A student on the Dean's List with a 4.0 GPA. Although her very impressed professors filled her letters of recommendations with praises to prestigious institutions, Bernice decided to concentrate on making her dreams a reality by focusing on what she was most passionate about: writing.
It wasn't long before she won several Editor's Choice awards and nominations for Best Poet of the Year. She was Poet Neophyte of the Month from Muses Review. In that same year, her very first poetry book, Lemonade Street, was published. Lemonade Street, like its title suggests, is a deeply rich and profound compilation of bitter-sweet poems and if you need a hint, look no further than the reviews from readers and fans.
Bernice's e-Zine, Ladies Success Magazine, was born the following year and although it quickly gained popularity, it was short-lived as Bernice was faced with the death of her father. It would be a period that gave birth to more than six different projects and writings: an extensive children's book series, an autobiography and The Forever Young Revolution or FYR™ (pronounced 'Fire'). FYR™ is a lifestyle that teaches you how to love yourself a little differently. It is also the only healthy lifestyle practice of its kind with a mathematical formula.
Bernice was a contributing editor and writer for the internationally renowned BHF magazine. Her articles and poems have been published both online and in print. Her poem 'Unconditionally', which was also nominated as Best poem of the year by Muses Review, was chosen for publication in a special anthology, Hope Whispers. Ms. Angoh is also a guest Editor for Cameroon Echoes Magazine and part of the brilliant team that makes up The Word Shop. Bernice and her daughter, Nina, started Nikota©Photography, a mother and daughter venture sparked by Nina's love for photography ever since she was three years old(The credit for all photos on this site goes to little Ms. Nina). Bernice also enjoys movies, music, reading and inventing new products.
She is currently collaborating with her daughter on their 'Be Yourself and Shine' children's book series, doing radio promotions and book signings for her second book, When a Woman Loves a Man. Bernice lives in Georgia with her husband, Rick and their two beautiful children. On every other day, you can catch her fine-tuning her next bestseller, homeschooling her daughter and bonding with her son.
There is no doubt that the world has yet to discover its next amazing writer. No one can stir the soul, make you cry and smile at the same time like Ms. Angoh does.
"Money is definitely not the root of all evil, the lack of love is."--Bernice Angoh
